Manufacturing Skills and Training Taskforce

The goal of the Manufacturing Skills and Training Taskforce is to assist in the production of skilled labour, in sufficient quantity and quality, to meet manufacturing industry needs.

Operational terms of reference

  • the Taskforce is action focused
  • the Taskforce will utilise existing research but will not commission its own
  • the Taskforce recognises that Government and industry have resourced and dedicated much effort to improving each of three key elements:
    1. training demand
    2. training supply
    3. industry buy-in
  • the Taskforce will focus on the relationships between these elements, rather than any element in detail

Administrative arrangements

The Taskforce formally reports to the Victorian Skills Commission (VSC). It also regularly consults with and reports to the Manufacturing Industry Consultative Council (MICC), ensuring maximum impact without duplication.

The Taskforce is jointly serviced by Skills Victoria and the Office of Manufacturing.

Short-term forward agenda

The Taskforce endorsed the following criteria for project activity:

  • supports the uptake of the increase in publicly funded training in manufacturing
  • enhances or extends the outcomes of an existing initiative
  • enhances or generates input from existing intermediaries
  • provides linkages between initiatives
  • targets secondary schools and/or young people who have left school
