Key Outcomes - 6 December 2007
At its 6 December 2007 meeting the Victorian Skills Commission (VSC):
- discussed Federal election skill priorities
- approved its 2008 work plan
- noted a process for developing the 2008 VSC Outcomes Monitoring Report
- noted the implementation of the 2008 Performance Agreements between the Commission and Victorian TAFE institutions, and requested that the Audit and Risk Committee monitor TAFE institute responses to Government skills initiatives and consider strategies to improve TAFE institute board awareness of obligations
- requested further information on existing employees having access to funded traineeships and associated State Government incentives in certain circumstances
- recommended that the Office of Training and Tertiary Education (OTTE) progressively implement in 2008 the system for competency based progression and completions in the engineering industry, and requested a number of implementation actions
- noted that communication and marketing strategies to provide systemic support to improve public perceptions of vocational education and training (VET) are in place, that further work will be undertaken in 2008 to develop a case for the provision of specific campaign funding to support improved perceptions of VET, and that OTTE will advise the VSC on progress of a Department of Education and Science and Training (DEST) research project focussed on public perceptions of VET
- noted advice provided on the Human Rights and Responsibilities Charter, and the availability of training for board members in the Human Rights and Responsibilities Charter.
