Key Outcomes from VSC Meetings

Key Outcomes - 29 June 2009

At its 29 June 2009 meeting the Victorian Skills Commission (VSC):

  • noted approval out of session of an analysis of skill shortages informing the development of exemptions criteria, and a response to Skills Australia’s ‘Foundations for the Future’ discussion paper;
  • agreed to hold a strategic planning session in July;
  • noted an overview of the Skills Reform Industry Engagement Strategy;
  • noted overall progress to date with implementation of ITAB-related skills reform initiatives; and approved variations of ITAB Performance Funding Agreements to reflect new deliverables and funding arising from these initiatives;
  • noted the updated VSC Outcomes Monitoring Report 2009;
  • noted a report of issues raised at the VSC Industry Skills Forum;
  • noted a report from the Chair on the Legislative Council Inquiry into Departmental and Agency Performance and Operations – VSC Hearing;
  • noted progress with the implementation of competency based completions; the implementation of reforms from 2008; and the impact of the global economic downturn on Victorian apprenticeships and actions taken to date.
  • noted the report on how Skills Victoria and VSC input was incorporated into the whole of government submission to the Parliamentary Committee Inquiry into Skills Shortages in the Rail Industry.
