TAFE Directors Convention
On 6 October, the Victorian Skills Commissioner Neil Coulson joined industry leaders on a plenary panel session as part of the TAFE Directors Australia 2016 Convention.
The panel discussion was facilitated by television presenter Virginia Trioli and addressed the topic of what role must employers and government play in ensuring VET students graduate with the skills needed to compete in Australian and global labour markets.
In his speech, Mr Coulson outlined three challenges that need to be addressed to ensure graduates are job ready.
The first challenge – the big one – is knowing what skills will be needed in the future. The second challenge is ensuring young people get those skills. And the third challenge is understanding who is responsible for which part of the process.
A “record” 450 delegates attended the convention in Melbourne.
